Course Objectives:
This 3 day course is designed to teach advanced handlers and back-up personnel the skills that are necessary to conduct searches for fugitives and lost persons in rural environments and bring them to a successful conclusion.
The training is based on the "Team Concept" which includes K9 handlers and cover personnel. Ideally handlers should attend with cover officers they will be working with. Team concept will include: visual tracking, team safty, communications and K9 handler assistance.
Instructors
John Lutenberg and Jim Dalton have over 50 years of combined feild tracking experience gained from numerous actual searches for fugitives and lost people. Both have hundreds of trailing miles behind them.
"This class is based on what we know works on actual deployments". EXPERIENCE, not theory.
Individuals attending without a K9 will learn the same deployment techniques as students attending with a K9.
Students will learn the following skills:
- Locate a reliable starting point
- Initial scene investigation
- Starting the dog on the trail
- Working the trail during a deployment
- Understanding K9 behavior on the trail
- Understanding subject behaviors on the trail
- How to conduct night and day deployments
- Team concepts ( whole search from start to finish)
- Utilizing multiple K9 teams on the trail
- How to work with large scale searches and provide mutual aid
- Visual Tracking
Day 1 AM: - Classroom covering visual tracking and Search operations.
Day 1 PM: - Practical application visual tracking, day and night training.
Day 2: - Reality based utilization training.
- Finding your starting point and running trail.
- Night trailing.
Day 3: - Reality based training.
- Running trail with multiple dog teams.
DATES: April 25th, 26th and 27th, 2012
TUITION:
- $450 handler and K9
- $350 for cover personnel only
