About our School
g training services since 1997. Over the years our program has evolved to become one of the best in the country. We have developed, introduced and taught our training techniques and theories to Law Enforcement K9 Officers and Search and Rescue K9 Teams all across the country and overseas.
Since one single training method does not work for every type of dog, we have developed our own training style and combined it with traditional training methods to create a program that provides a very sound and practical foundation for Bloodhounds as well as many different breeds. This makes us unique in the tracking and trailing world.
Our program is designed to enhance the students knowledge and skill level by combining field training with classroom study. Unlike many sit and wait seminars, our five day, 50 hour training schedule maximizes training time by keeping the student / instructor ratio very low (3 to 1) so there is very little down time for K9 teams.
The program is not designed to fully train a dog in 5 days, rather it provides students with a well rounded knowledge and solid foundation in training skills they can use to continue to advance their dogs after they have completed the program. Students may also achieve a trailing certification after completing the 50 hour program if they are ready and able to pass the test.
Many students return once a year to advanced their skills and try to achieve a higher level o
f certification. Advanced students will be challenged with more difficult trailing problems and training scenarios to work out.
Visual tracking skills can enhance the performance of any trailing team and can be an essential part of a successful deployment. Visual awareness in the field is important for K9 handlers to learn. Handlers will learn some visual tracking skills in the classroom to enhance the teams abilities in the field.
The Canon City area provides a perfect environment to practice the new skills learned in class. Students and their dogs will be working in a variety of different terrains under different conditions. The majority of the training is conducted in the field giving students valuable hands on training time.
