John Luttenberg
John Luttenberg


John Lutenberg
is the owner and head trainer for the Canine Training Academy. John has over 30 years experience training and working trailing, detector and patrol K9s. He is currently employed with the Colorado Department of Corrections and supervises the training of 17 dog teams statewide. He also serves as an active K9 handler for the CDOC escape team. Over the years John has assisted many local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on criminal cases and SAR missions with his trailing dogs and patrol K-9's. He has many captures to his credit; and has participated as an instructor for numerous trailing dog seminars around the country where he shares his real world deployment experience and training methods with students.

John served in the US army at Lackland Air Force base as a K9 trainer and an assistant Army liaison from 1969 to 1971. During that time he assisted in the training of numerous K9s for military use. John participated as an instructor and performance evaluator for the California P.O.S.T Bloodhound tracking class in 2002,2003 and 2004. He was also an advisor in the development and evaluation process for the California P.O.S.T Bloodhound Tracking Course.

John is currently a member the North American Police Working Dog Association, and a member and certifying official for the Colorado Police Canine Association. Johns accomplishments as well as his teaching techniques are recognized and respected around the nation by many K9 handlers. John enjoys attending different tracking and trailing seminars around the country always hoping to learn something new.

 
       
  Linda Porter
Linda Porter

Linda Porter has been the Academy Coordinator and field instructor for the Canine Training Academy since its inception. Linda is currently a Reserve Police Officer and K9 handler for the Canon City Police Department. She has been working and training patrol, tracking and narcotics detection K9s since 1996 and currently handles a cross trained Patrol, Narcotics and Tracking K9 for the Canon City Police Department. Over the past 10 years she has assisted many local and state law enforcement agencies with her K9's.

Linda participated as an instructor and team evaluator for the California P.O.S.T Bloodhound Tracking Course in 2002,2003 and 2004 and assisted in creating the P.O.S.T standards for  the K9 team evaluation process. She is a member of the Colorado Police Canine Association and keeps current on her training by attending seminars annually around  the country and training regularly with different K9 groups in her area. Linda brings over 12 years of training experience to the Academy and its students. She is an enthusiastic instructor who loves to share new training techniques with students.

 
       
  Coby Webb
Coby Webb

Coby Webb has 8 years experience working patrol, tracking and narcotics detection K9s for Law Enforcement. She is currently employed as a K-9 Sergeant and Bloodhound handler for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. She has assisted local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in California and Nevada with her tracking dogs and has been responsible for establishing tracking dog case law in the state of California. She is recognized as a court expert in Bloodhound tracking and scent in the state of California. Coby was an instructor and team evaluator for California P.O.S.T Bloodhound tracking class and is a member of the California Narcotics Dog Association, American Working Dogs Association and treasurer for the National Police Bloodhound Association.

Coby has been an instructor for the Canine Training Academy for 5 years and is a wonderful addition to our team of instructors. She enjoys sharing her case law knowledge and courtroom experience as well as her actual case scenarios with students. Coby regularly attends trailing dog seminars around the country and is always enthusiastic about learning and sharing new techniques.

 
       
  Jim Dalton
Jim Dalton

Jim Dalton has been an instructor with the Canine Training Academy for over 8 years. Jim specializes in teaching our students to track subjects visually as well instructing trailing skills.

Jim is currently employed with the Colorado Department of Corrections and has severed as a member of the inmate escape team for over 17 years. He has participated in many large scale man hunts and spent many years as handler back up support and a visual tracker. He is still an active member of the inmate escape team and regularly attends K9 training where he teaches training techniques and visual tracking skills within his department. Jim is a wonderfully friendly and humorous instructor with real world deployment experience to share.

 
       
  Doug Lowry
Doug Lowry

Doug Lowry is a former Trooper with the Maryland State Police, recently retiring after a career of 32 ½ years, 26 of those years being spent as a K-9 handler.  During the span of his career in the K-9 Unit, Doug trained and handled German Shepherd patrol dogs, drug detector dogs, bomb dogs, a gun dog, a cadaver dog and man-trailing Bloodhounds.  Doug was Head Trainer for his Agency for approximately 8 years, training several dog teams for the State Police and various allied agencies to include drug detector dogs for the Bermuda Police Department.

During his years as a K-9 handler, Doug has assisted many various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on search and rescue calls and criminal cases. Doug and his K-9 partners have many finds and captures to their credit, to include 5 “life-saving” finds with his bloodhounds.  He has participated as a field training instructor for numerous trailing dog seminars throughout the country where he shares his real life trailing knowledge.

Doug is currently a member of the National Police Bloodhound Association and Law Enforcement Bloodhound Association and has served as Vice President and Field Training Instructor for both organizations.  Doug is senior Field Training Instructor for the “advanced group” of man-trailing bloodhound teams for the National Police Bloodhound Association and also currently serves on the Board of Trustees.

Doug served as an instructor and performance evaluator for the California P.O.S.T. Bloodhound Tracking Class in 2002, 2003 and 2004.  He is recognized has an “expert witness” in the field of man-trailing bloodhound testimony in Maryland and California, where he has testified in high profile cases.

Doug is well respected in the K9 world for his accomplishments and skills as a handler, and trainer. Doug enjoys attending and teaching at various man-trailing seminars, affording him the opportunity to learn new ideas and techniques from other handlers in attendance.
